LanoX vs OpenRouter: Prices, Refunds, Models, and Data Policies
By the LanoX Team. Price data is as of November 2, 2026; other facts were checked November 3 and re-verified November 5, 2026 (Asia/Dubai). LanoX is one of the compared parties, so this is not an independent review.
On the 14 models listed by both platforms, LanoX had the lower output price on 12 and the lower input price on 9 in the November 2, 2026 snapshot; the median gaps were −67.4% on output and −56.6% on input. OpenRouter can still be the better fit when its model price, routing, or payment setup suits your workload. Compare the model rows, API details, top-up terms, and the refund policy before switching.
This is a practical comparison rather than a claim that one platform wins every request. For the row-by-row price data, see the LLM API price gap index; for a broader same-model comparison, see OpenRouter alternatives in 2026.
The comparison in one table
The price result is clear but not universal: LanoX was cheaper more often in this snapshot, while OpenRouter remains cheaper on some rows. The figures below use the same model ID on both public lists.

A negative gap means the LanoX price is lower than the OpenRouter price. A median summarizes the middle of the set; it does not mean every model is discounted by that exact percentage.
Where LanoX costs less
These are five examples from the 12 shared models where the LanoX output price was lower:
| Model | LanoX output | OpenRouter output | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| gpt-6-sol | $1.67 | $10.00 | −83.3% |
| gpt-6-luna | $0.0835 | $0.50 | −83.3% |
| gemini-3.8-flash | $0.75 | $4.125 | −81.8% |
| grok-4.7 | $1.50 | $6.00 | −75.0% |
| claude-sonnet-5 | $2.99 | $10.00 | −70.1% |
The table is a list-price comparison. It does not include your own input/output mix, prompt caching, batch pricing, long-context pricing, coupons, or enterprise terms.
Where OpenRouter costs less
OpenRouter is cheaper on output for these two rows in the same snapshot:
| Model | LanoX output | OpenRouter output | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| deepseek-v4-flash-0731 | $0.3583 | $0.238 | +50.5% |
| glm-5.3-flash | $0.1258 | $0.0923 | +36.3% |
On input price, LanoX was higher on 5 models: kimi-k3 (+681.2%), glm-5.3 (+349.4%), deepseek-v4-pro-0813 (+250.5%), deepseek-v4.1-flash (+99.1%) and glm-5.3-flash (+26.0%). If one of these models dominates your traffic, calculate with your own token mix instead of using the median.
How the price comparison works
Each row matches the exact model ID on both platforms. OpenRouter prices come from its public models interface; LanoX prices come from the public models and pricing page. LanoX uses the default group and the first base tier shown on that page.
The gap is calculated as (LanoX price − OpenRouter price) ÷ OpenRouter price. The price gap index keeps the input and output columns separate, which matters because a model can be cheaper on one side of a request and more expensive on the other.
Prices can move during the day. On 2026-11-02, the OpenRouter API price for glm-5.3 changed from $0.0699 input and $1.40 output per 1M tokens to $0.08 and $3.60; the later snapshot showed $0.08 and $3.60. Always record the data date when you compare platforms.
API compatibility and migration
A lower token price does not remove migration work. The LanoX docs list an OpenAI-compatible format and the Claude Messages format for text models. Before moving a production client, test the endpoint, model ID, authentication, streaming, tool calls, error handling, and the input/output token accounting that your application reads.
OpenRouter also documents its own API behavior in its FAQ. Do not assume that matching model names make every response field, provider route, timeout, or fallback behavior identical.
- Export a small set of representative requests from your current integration.
- Run the same requests with the exact model ID on the other platform.
- Compare output quality, latency, errors, tool calls, and token usage rather than price alone.
- Set a spending limit and keep a rollback path before changing the default endpoint.
Payment, credits, and the price you actually pay
The price table compares model list prices, not the complete cost of funding an account. OpenRouter’s FAQ says it passes provider pricing through without an inference markup and charges a fee when you purchase credits. That purchase fee is not included in the model rows above.
Before adding balance, check the payment methods and the displayed amount in the live checkout for the account and region you will use. Then compare the top-up fee, the token prices for your actual models, and the refund terms together.
- Use the price gap index to identify the exact model IDs you need.
- Weight input and output prices by your real traffic mix.
- Include any fee charged when you buy credits or add balance.
- Read the refund policy before treating unused balance as recoverable cash.
LanoX refund terms
The live Refund Policy is version 1.0 and took effect on 2026-08-18. It says top-ups are final and non-refundable, except for the 7 exceptions listed in Section 5.
| Policy detail | What it means for this comparison |
|---|---|
| Version | 1.0 |
| Effective date | 2026-08-18 |
| Top-ups | Final and non-refundable as the general rule |
| Exceptions | 7 exceptions are listed in Section 5 |
Do not choose a platform on token price alone and assume you can reverse a top-up later. Check whether your situation fits one of the exceptions before adding balance, and use the policy page rather than an informal summary as the source of truth.
Security and data handling
LanoX’s Security & Trust page says it processes and forwards requests without storing inputs or responses, and notes that upstream providers have their own data policies. That is LanoX’s stated policy; it does not automatically describe every provider that may handle a request.
OpenRouter’s public FAQ also describes platform behavior and routing options. For sensitive data, check the current policy of the platform and the upstream provider for the model you select. Keep API keys server-side, remove secrets from prompts and logs, and revoke a key if it is exposed.
If your review requires a third-party audit, a particular data region, or a provider-specific retention period, ask for that evidence directly. A lower public token price is not a substitute for a requirement your team must meet.
Which platform should you choose?
- Choose LanoX when the exact models you use are cheaper in the price table, its supported API format fits your client, and its payment and refund terms work for your account.
- Choose OpenRouter when its price is lower for your high-volume models, its routing or provider choice is important, or its credit and payment flow fits your operations better.
- Compare both before committing when your workload uses models on both sides of the table. The 12 output wins and 9 input wins are useful signals, not a blanket guarantee.
The shortest safe decision is to match model IDs, calculate your input/output mix, test the API with real representative requests, and read the refund policy before funding the account.
FAQ
- Is LanoX cheaper than OpenRouter?
- Not on every model. In the 2026-11-02 snapshot, LanoX had the lower output price on 12 of 14 shared models and the lower input price on 9. The full price gap index lists every row.
- What does the Claude −70.1% figure mean?
- It is the OpenRouter price gap for the claude-sonnet-5 output row in the table. It is not LanoX’s maximum catalog discount or a promise that every Claude request costs that much less.
- Does OpenRouter add a markup to model prices?
- Its FAQ, checked and re-verified for this comparison, says it passes provider pricing through without an inference markup and charges a fee when you purchase credits. That fee is excluded from the model price table.
- Can I refund a LanoX top-up?
- The Refund Policy version 1.0, effective 2026-08-18, says top-ups are final and non-refundable except for the 7 exceptions in Section 5. Read the live refund policy and check whether your situation meets an exception before adding balance.
